London – 30 June, 2021 – Real Wireless today announced its world-leading team of wireless industry experts is being expanded with the appointment of Rupert Baines as an Associate Strategy and Marketing Advisor. Rupert brings significant wireless technology and industry experience with a strong blend of marketing and commercial understanding to help Real Wireless clients achieve success through the intelligent application of appropriate wireless technologies.
As a former Technology and Marketing Advisor at Real Wireless, Rupert returns to the team with a long history of wireless industry successes behind him. Rupert was one of the team responsible for founding the Small Cell Forum and, having been elected to the Board, he became the Chair of the Marketing group where he helped to define the foundations of the industry’s success. As Vice President of Marketing at Picochip, Rupert was responsible for defining the company’s small cell proposition that drove its global expansion and revenue growth, and ultimately its sale to Intel.
From 2015, Rupert was CEO of UltraSoC, a company with a strong semiconductor IP technology but with little market; he developed the technology and repositioned it by focusing on the embedded market with automotive cybersecurity as a key application. He sold UltraSoC to Siemens in 2020.
Rupert commented, “This is an exciting time to be returning, with Real Wireless having been appointed to assess the Shared Rural Network and, amongst other things, a big opportunity for Real Wireless to support initiatives around Open-RAN.
I am proud to again be joining the incredibly talented team of experts at Real Wireless: the body of scientists, economists, technologists, deployment specialists, with a combined skillset that uniquely enables Real Wireless to support the wireless industry in the widest sense: from regulators and wireless vendors to large-scale infrastructure or transportation projects and venues.”
Mark Keenan, CEO of Real Wireless, commented, “Rupert’s track record of success, his deep technical knowledge, industry experience and contacts, his insights and business acumen all add incredible value to Real Wireless and help us to provide the highest levels of service to the wireless industry and wireless users alike.”
An engineer by training, in his earlier career, Rupert worked at Analog Devices in the USA, where he pioneered DSL chipsets and took them to market leadership. At network operators CLECs Atlantic Telecom & first::telecom, he was responsible for new product launches and strategy. Following his MBA, Rupert also went on to work as an Associate Partner with Pond, a European high-tech venture capital fund; and for technology strategy consultancy Arthur D Little.
